Smaller and specialist facilities
Britain has far more working harbours, wharves and jetties than the list above. We supply around many of them, but we will not publish a page implying container traffic or scheduled liner services where none exists. These are grouped honestly instead.
south-coast
Smaller Solent and south coast wharves, marine yards and commercial quays. These are grouped rather than given individual pages because their commercial cargo activity is limited or specialist; we make no claim about container traffic or scheduled services at any of them.
Includes: Cowes and Medina wharves, Littlehampton, Rye Harbour, Weymouth, Southampton area private wharves.
thames-east
Thames and East Anglian riverside wharves and specialist terminals, grouped because their cargo roles are narrow or single-commodity.
Includes: Purfleet, Sheerness area wharves, Ipswich, Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft, Ramsgate.
south-west
Smaller South West harbours and wharves with limited or specialist commercial cargo activity.
Includes: Teignmouth, Par and Fowey (china clay), Penzance, Bridgwater area wharves, Sharpness.
wales
Smaller Welsh harbours and specialist quays, grouped because their commercial cargo role is limited.
Includes: Barry, Mostyn, Neath, Porthmadog area quays.
north-west
Smaller North West wharves, canal berths and specialist terminals.
Includes: Garston, Fleetwood, Barrow-in-Furness, Silloth, Workington, Whitehaven.
humber-north-east
Humber and North East riverside wharves and single-commodity terminals.
Includes: Goole, Howden and Selby wharves, Killingholme, Sunderland, Seaham, Hartlepool.
scotland
Smaller Scottish harbours, island ports and specialist terminals. Many serve lifeline ferry, fishing or energy roles rather than general cargo.
Includes: Peterhead, Fraserburgh, Montrose, Ayr and Troon, Cairnryan, Stornoway, Kirkwall, Lerwick, Scrabster.
northern-ireland
Smaller Northern Ireland harbours and specialist quays.
Includes: Coleraine, Kilkeel, Ardglass, Bangor area quays.
